MANIFESTO CORNICI

Poster created to narrate the life of frames.

A frame is a boundary, a threshold, a passage that delineates, focuses, circumscribes, and isolates.
The frame decontextualizes the image it contains, identifying it as a distinct space in relation to the context in which it is placed.

It has a deictic function: it points to, displays, and “shows off” the painting; it invites and directs the viewer’s gaze toward the image, transforming ordinary looking into vision and contemplation.

The frame represents the boundary line between ordinary space and the space of fiction.
J. Ortega y Gasset, in Meditations on the Frame, speaking of the power of the frame, states:
“From the real to the unreal, the spirit makes a leap, as from wakefulness to sleep.”
The power of the frame lies in its ability to act as a bridge—a connection between the world of reality and the world of the image—while simultaneously ensuring that these worlds remain separate.
